Ion Blaster is the oldest Weapon in the Chicken Invaders series, appearing in every game. It's the starting weapon in Revenge of the Yolk after the Prologue.

It functions as a basic spread shot weapon, firing multiple bullets spread out evenly.

This page describes the version seen in Revenge of the Yolk, Ultimate Omelette and Cluck of the Dark Side.

Strategy

Ion Blaster fires red ions that are spread out evenly and accelerate as they go. The initial upgrades add more bullets, while the later ones replace them with double bullets. The automatic firerate is better than most manual weapons, and the overheat time is fairly high. However, it's hard to deal concentrated fire with this weapon, as you have to get very close to the enemies. The overall Damage per Second for this weapon is one of the worst out of all weapons, and that includes all of its bullets hitting the targets.

Ion Blaster works well on early Chapters when the enemies are still weak, and on Waves with a lot of weak targets (Supernova Debris, Feather Fields). It's better to switch to other weapons in the late-game.

The manual firerate of this weapon is different depending on the game and amount of players. In Multiplayer it's locked to 5/s. Revenge of the Yolk has a better manual firerate cap of 10/s, but the weapon overheats quickly at that rate.

In order to never overheat, the optimal firerate for this weapon is 5.33/s on manual fire.

Its Gift is always available.

Pros

  • High overheat time.
  • Decent manual and automatic firerate.
  • Fires dozens of bullets that can clear huge groups of enemies quickly.
  • Perfect for chapters like Supernova Explosion or the Feather Fields of Yolkon-7 due to its huge spread.

Cons

  • Its Damage per Second is one of the worst.
  • Concentrated fire can be problematic, especially on small targets.
  • Damage falls off on bosses, unless you get really close.
  • Its multiple bullets are likely to set off Coward Chickens.

It's a member of the Fire group, so it has its weaknesses and strengths.
