Chicken Invaders is a long running series (since 1997) of shoot-em-up games created by InterAction studios, made in the Ultra VGA Engine. It's parodying Galaxian, Space Invaders, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Darius, where you shoot Chickens, stop their evil plans and save Earth (and humanity too).

The core mechanics of the games are very simple: you clear waves of Chickens and other enemies, avoid eggs and other projectiles, collect Powerups to make your weapon stronger, get the Food items to obtain Missiles, and collect Keys to unlock items in the Unlockables menu.

The series also include various holiday themed Editions.

Trivia

  • The UveDX version of Chicken Invaders isn't the first Chicken Invaders ever, as the DOS version came before it. It, however, never was released. Nothing much is left from those versions today, aside from the title screen and some of its code that still gets used in the engine to this day.
    • This version is also the first one to use rendered graphics, as the DOS version used pixel art instead. The Hero didn't exist in it, instead, the player was controlling a handgun.
  • The series at first expanded what the Hero had to travel through to save Earth, it was first the Earth itself only, then the entire Solar System, then the Milky Way, then the galaxies around it. Cluck of the Dark Side focused on the Milky Way again. Even though Universe is not an episode, it will expand again to cover a completely different galaxy.
  • The Hero only says two lines of dialogue in Chicken Invaders. In The Next Wave, he doesn't say anything. In Revenge of the Yolk and beyond, he gets more detailed and comical dialogue every chapter, and he also gets to talk in certain waves.
